Cholesterol efflux was studied in a model system in culture using apolipoproteins and
phospholipids added in the form of liposomes at concentrations expected to be present in
the extracellular fluid. Fibroblasts were seeded in medium containing [3 H] cholesterol-
labeled serum, grown till confluent, and the [3 H] cholesterol efflux was studied in serum-free
