Intravenous doses of 6 mg of delta‐9‐tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) produced moderately
severe marihuana intoxications. Glucose tolerance was impaired, and this deterioration of
glucose tolerance was associated with increased plasma levels of growth hormone.
Although large doses of marihuana might aggravate diabetes, the rarity of this phenomenon
in clinical practice may be due to the lower doses of THC used socially or development of
tolerance to this specific pharmacologic effect.
